Exploring Suncheon's Rich Heritage and Serene Beauty

Journey to the South

It's time to head south after all these years; the East Coast used to be my go-to destination with easy access. I've always wanted to visit Nakan Eupsung, the Sunchon fortress built during the Chosun dynasty era in 1624.

What's particularly exciting is the opportunity to stay in a traditional guest house for two nights in Suncheon, South Jeolla Province.

Although I'm not particularly fond of travelling alone, I used to venture far and wide. However, this trip provides a great chance to immerse myself in the sounds surrounding me.

Having planned this trip for so long, I'm determined to make the most of it.

The South Region of Korea isn't known for its grain production. However, the existing wetlands have provided numerous benefits to the locals over the generations.

After a four-hour drive, I finally arrived at the station, ready to embrace the scents of South Jeolla Province with more affection, knowing that this region is also close to the hometown of J-Hope, a member of BTS.

My initial impression of Suncheon was that it felt humble, warm, and laid-back, with a sparse collection of buildings and sprawling mountains stretching across the scenery.

As I stepped off the bus, the strong sunshine and expansive blue sky immediately caught my attention.

For this summer trip, I decided to buy a pair of sports sandals from TEVA for the first time. They allow my feet to breathe, making me ready to hit the road and explore.

Now, more than ever, I am truly grasping the small size of South Korea. Within just 4 to 5 hours by bus or train, you can reach the furthest end of the South Korean peninsula. If North and South Korea were to reunify into one country, I can't even begin to imagine how this newfound freedom to expand horizons would shape the behaviours and mindset of Korean society.
