Mabang Jib A Heartwarming Reunion Amidst Tradition and Flavor
The 100-year-old house located in Gyeonggi Province, with its unique traditional traits, has been transformed into a sustainable Korean food restaurant. The restaurant is strongly committed to serving homemade, humble, and plentiful dishes that create special moments and offer comfort to its visitors.
Recently, eight members of our family had a special reunion at a place called Mabang Jib, situated on a hill surrounded by forests. The name "Mabang Jib" literally translates to "Horse House." Interestingly, this house was initially used to serve horses during the Joseon Dynasty. Simultaneously, it provided shelter for traditional merchants who travelled long hours from various regions of Korea before entering Hanyang (the old name of Seoul) to sell their regional products.
During those times, the Horse House offered merchants a space to rest, enjoy alcohol, and savor homemade food while their horses rested after enduring long hours of walking. Nowadays, the restaurant still serves Korean food, but instead of accommodating horses, there are designated car parking areas.
Although the house's exterior has been given a modern touch, the traditional Kiwa roof and the house's original structure have been preserved.
The vegetable side dishes are fresh, clean, and bursting with unique flavours. All of them were delicious and healthy. Regardless of age, everyone thoroughly enjoyed these carefully prepared dishes. We were able to share quality time together, making it a perfect day for all of us.
Leaving Mabang Jib, we carried with us not only the memories of the delicious food and the rich history of the Horse House but also the bonds that had been strengthened and the love that had been shared among family members. It was a day filled with warmth, happiness and a deep appreciation for the traditions that connect us to our past.
