The Mystery of Kim Jong-un's Absence on North Korean Banknotes

Why Kim Jong-un chose not to have his face printed on the new North Korean banknotes ?

There are several reasons we can speculate,

Propaganda and Leader Worship

North Korea's leaders, especially the Kim family, are admired and celebrated greatly. But like in other strict governments, leaders usually don't put their own pictures on money to keep a special image.

By not showing his face on the banknotes, Kim Jong-un might want people to see him as someone special and mysterious, beyond just money matters.

Following Ancestral Tradition

Kim Jong-un may be following the example of his grandfather, Kim Il-sung, and his father, Kim Jong-il. These leaders also didn't put their faces on the country's money during their lifetimes. Instead, they were remembered through statues and pictures.

Emphasizing Ideas and Symbols

North Korea gives a lot of importance to its symbols, beliefs, and heroes. The banknotes often feature important figures from its history and symbols that represent the country's identity. By focusing on these symbols rather than the leader's face, the government maintains a sense of unity and collective identity.

Safety Concerns

Having a living leader's picture on money can lead to fake money or threats to the leader's life. By avoiding this, the government tries to reduce the risk of fake money and keep the leader safe.

Remember, information about North Korea's leaders and decisions is tightly controlled, so we may not know exactly why Kim Jong-un's face isn't on the money.
