The timless apeal of Duck meat from the Ancient Egypt to the present
Discovering the Link between Duck Meat and Our Passion for Health
When I first encountered duck meat, I used to think it wouldn't be much different from chicken. However, I soon discovered that cooking duck has distinct advantages, brings positive health benefits, involves unique cooking techniques, and requires different ingredient preparation compared to chicken dishes.
Nowadays, duck meat has gained recognition as a form of slow food, receiving love and appreciation from the general public due to its nutritional value.
Ducks have been domesticated from their wild origins and have been raised for over 3,000 years. Remarkably, even ancient Egyptians consumed duck meat, highlighting the longstanding history of duck consumption, particularly in China where it dates back to ancient times. The enduring popularity of duck in culinary cultures stems from its reputation as a healthy food choice. Unlike other meats, which tend to be acidic, duck meat is alkaline, effectively contributing to the prevention of various cardiovascular diseases.
Additionally, duck meat is rich in vitamins, protein, and iron, making it a highly nutritious option. As a result, many restaurants have emerged, offering dishes where ducks are slow-cooked for an extended period with a variety of grains, nuts, herbs, and other ingredients. Although these true slow-food establishments are relatively few in number, they provide a sense of trust and assurance regarding the quality of the food they serve.
In the vicinity of where I live, near Gyeonggi Province, there is a restaurant located along the road, next to the green belt area, specializing in mud-steamed duck. This unique method involves tightly packing the duck in a clay pot and cooking it in hot mud.
It has become a favorite spot for my entire family.
While the price for one duck is approximately 70,000 won, it is more than sufficient to satisfy five people. Moreover, the restaurant generously provides ample side dishes, creating an enjoyable dining experience and allowing us to spend quality time with our loved ones.
if you find yourself in Korea, why not embark on your own culinary adventure at one of the duck meat restaurants?
Bon Appetit !
